Fostering partnerships between screenwriters and documentary makers

It is not a given that documentary makers are writers and many documentary makers operate in silos. We all know that supportive partnerships progressing through the challenging process of development are the most likely to succeed.  Consequently, Loading Docs would like to invite Writers Guild members to apply to participate in a collaborative workshop alongside Loading Docs filmmakers.

Moderated by Brita McVeigh the half day workshop will provide an opportunity for screenwriters and documentary makers to meet and explore the art of treatment writing for documentary. Emphasis will be on finding the story through character, premise and world. The session will include individual and group work focusing on active writing, scenes and sequences, and visual language.

This workshop is open to receiving applications from both established and emerging writers for screen. A full CV is required.

Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents.
Applicants must have the following ‘written by credit’ to be eligible to apply:
Film, Short Film, Television, New Media and Theatre – at least one scripted full-length work (produced or unproduced) in one of these formats, where the writer is the primary creator.

The date for the Loading Docs workshop is Saturday 12 August.
