16 years of Pasifika Film and no sign of slowing down! Craig Fasi continues to support, promote and showcase Pasifika Film via his Labour of love Pollywood Pasifika Film.
Limited to ONE screening on Sunday 4 November 2018, 6pm at the Mangere Art Centre – Nga Tohu O Uenuku. Pollywood will prove to be an ongoing advocate for Pasifika stories to be shared with all people and agenda to inspire more Pasifika people to immortalize their stories on film and be a cultural reference for the many years to come.
“The decision process this year was a real challenge, with so many unique polished works and strong cultural storylines to decide upon – I found myself being a lot more meticulous in the selection of the final film collection” Says Craig Fasi. “I am certain the audience will absolutely enjoy the final line up of 7 films on offer.
Huge accolades received here with the NZ International Film Festival and abroad at Imaginative by the makers of “My Friend Michael Jones” Co-directors Samson Rambo and Ian Leaupepe will be in attendance at the event to speak about their film with the audience. “Amazing to see so much content with just as much depth in such a short span of time is remarkable!” Says Mr Fasi.
Recent film school graduates, Aruna Po-Ching and Simone Kaho are warmly welcomed into the Pollywood Pasifika Film family. Aruna & Simone have completely different styles of film making. “Salamasina’s Daughters” by Aruna, comments on a historical Samoan male oratory tradition modernizing to allow more Samoan Women to take the lead. Simone Kaho, who has Tongan ancestry, contributes “Blown” – An ambitious, dramatic and confronting film of a Woman taking control in an overly male dominated environment.
Veteran Pollywood Director, Jason Taouma, is back on the attack with his latest Polynesian science fiction film. “TIKI-X823 Thanx for all the fish” with intentions of creating a web-series in the near future, Jason is more than comfortable with the genre and fast becoming familiar with Pasifika people in space suits!
90mins of Pasifika Film is made up of 7 well picked, well placed and well-paced films. Various representatives for the films will be in attendance to briefly speak about their work and take a couple questions from the audience.
