The fourth annual Māoriland Film Festival (MFF) is just around the corner. This celebration of global indigenous film will take audiences from Aotearoa to the Arctic Circle, all while based in Ōtaki, March 15-19.
Ahead of a full programme release on February 27, the MFF (headed up by festival director and WIFT member Libby Hakaraia) is excited to announce a series of highlights from the 2017 Programme. These include: Angry Inuk, which explores anti-seal hunting campaigns and the relevance of the hunt to the lives of the Inuit; Mele Murals, about the transformative power of modern graffiti art and ancient Hawaiian culture; and Tanna, the Vanuata-filmed love story that’s nominated for Best Foreign Feature Film at this year’s Academy Awards.
For the first time this year, the Māoriland Rangatahi Film Festival will run from March 15-17, within the wider Māoriland Film Festival. The MRFF includes short films, features and workshops that have been curated by Ngā Pakiaka – a rangatahi committee of award-winning youth filmmakers aged 12-16.
The fourth annual Māoriland Film Festival will also feature a number of short film programmes, workshops, kōrero sessions, art exhibitions and more. The full festival programme will be released on February 27, 2017.
Ticket sales will be available from March 1 on www.iticket.co.nz.
Delegate passes for industry members will be available from February 9 on www.iticket.co.nz.
