The street in front of the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood became an “ocean of stars”, filmmakers and guests celebrating the premiere of Disney’s “Moana,” the tale of a South Pacific island teenager who sails off on an adventure to save her village.

After months of speculation, excitement, expectation and in the face of initial criticisms from some quarters, re: fat Maui etc. the film is set to finally be released on November 23rd in the States and rolled out to the rest of the world.
But disappointingly for many fans in Australia and Aotearoa, they will have to wait until Boxing Day (Dec 26th) to see it. Only Brazil, Turkey, Sweden and Japan are set to see it after us.
The NZ premiere will be held at Auckland’s Hoyts Cinemas, at Sylvia Park, on December 13 for those lucky enough to attend.
A spokesperson for Disney though, has said the film was timed to release during the summer school holidays and was in line with previous releases like The Good Dinosaur, Big Hero Six and Frozen.
The spokesperson said it was “the best date for the New Zealand market”.
So sorry Kiwi and Aussie Poly’s but you’re going to have to wait.
